At Nyhavns Færgekro, we serve classic Danish open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød) and a variety of homemade herring specialties for lunch. You can also explore our unique aquavit selection – with up to 10 house-infused variations made from seasonal berries and herbs such as St. John's wort, sweet woodruff, and yarrow.

THE NYHAVNS FÆRGEKRO LUNCH EXPERIENCE

Enjoy a lunch experience with all the best from Nyhavns Færgekro. Six small servings of our house favourites, presented in bowls on a platter. Served with organic rye bread, sourdough bread, and butter.

Marinated herring fillets in a homemade sauce of mayonnaise, crème fraîche, curry.
Eggs and shrimps with dill mayonnaise and lemon.
Crispy fried fillet of plaice served with remoulade and lemon.
Dill-cured salmon with mustard dressing.
Traditional Danish meatballs with homemade potato salad, pickled red onions, watercress.
Roast beef with remoulade, crispy onions, cucumber salad, horseradish, watercress.

HERRING BUFFET

Enjoy 12 herring specialties served as a buffet. Help yourself as many times as you please — 185 kr. per person

Curry herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, crème fraiche, pepper, and curry.

Mustard herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, crème fraîche and Dijon mustard.

Crown herring
Pickled herring filets with allspice, pepper, bay leaves, red onion, freshly chopped dill, and sandalwood.

Dream herring
Herring filets in homemade mayonnaise with anchovies, onion, and Dijon mustard.

Onion herring
Herring matured for a minimum of 6 months, which gives the herring a special texture and rounded flavour with freshly chopped onions.

Smoked herring
Whole smoked herrings. Often eaten with egg yolk as the open sandwich “Sol over Gudhjem”.

Matjes herring
Matured red pickled herring. The word matje comes from the Netherlands and means virgin, and this herring is characterized by its small size but also its chubbiness and softness.

Long-term matured old-fashioned herring
Long-term matured herring fillets in small bites, matured in sugar, vinegar, salt, and spices.

Apple herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, crème fraîche, and apple cubes.

Fried herring
Warm marinated herring with Dijon mustard and Kalles Kaviar fried with rye flour and butter.

Roll mops
Fresh herring fillet poached in white wine and stuffed with Dijon mustard and dill.

On the buffet, you also find potatoes, red onion, chives, onion, capers, radishes, organic rye bread, butter, and lard.

Miss Berg’s famous warm fish cakes from Gl. Skagen with pickles and Danish ‘remoulade’ on organic rye bread.

Avocado (V) — 110 kr.
Avocado on smoked cheese cream, topped with olive oil and cress on butter-grilled organic sourdough bread.

Mushroom paté — 115 kr.
Served with red cabbage salad on grilled organic sourdough bread.

Cheese

Matured cheese — 95 kr.
Served on organic rye bread with aspic and onions - dashed with dark rum at the table.

Fried Camembert (V) — 95 kr.
Served with grilled organic sourdough bread and blackcurrant jam.


LUNCH COURSES

Færgekroens burger — 175 kr.
With beef patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Færgekroen's burgerdressing.
Served with French fries, ketchup and homemade mayonnaise.
Add bacon and cheese for +15 kr.

Færgekroens vegetarian burger — 175 kr.
With portobello mushroom, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Færgekroen's burger dressing. Served with French fries, ketchup and homemade mayonnaise.

Winter salad — 165 kr.
With hokkaido pumpkin, green cabbage, and raisins.

Potato and leek soup — 95 kr.
Served with chives, bacon, and grilled organic sourdough bread,


DESSERTS

Old fashioned apple cake — 95 kr.
Homemade apple compote with lighty whipped cream and macaroons. Tooped with red currant jelly.

Chocolate cake — 95 kr.
Our homemade chocolate cake, made of rich Belgian chocolate. Served with homemade vanilla ice cream, salted caramel, and crumble.

Cheese plate — 95 kr.
Three kinds of cheese, served with compote of the day and crackers.

Petit fours — 65 kr.
The chef’s selection of small sweet treats - 3 pcs.


SNACKS

Almonds, olives, Danish cheeses, serrano ham, chorizo, mini meatballs, tzatziki, and pickles. Served with organic rye bread, sourdough bread, and butter.
